Pat's Place 3/27/2011
photos courtesy of Stephanie McCannel!
This post is about Pat's Place. It's a great new experimental venue in town. Music, performance art, theatre, noise, and general debauchery are all things you'll encounter at any one of the shows (which, thankfully, seem to be increasing in frequency).
In case you missed the last show (which may or may not have been because you're lame), here's a gig report:
first set: Brian Epley
Three pictures of Jimi Hendrix, the word "Pot," the word "Love," ice, water, 1 banana, and 1 crumbled girl scout cookie were all placed in a blender and mixed for aprox. 2 minutes. this lovely concoction was poured out into glasses and passed around for everyone to try. I'll admit it didn't taste too bad.
second set: Me
a short piece I have been working on in my spare time for the past couple months. preparing a Rhodes piano with foreign objects and improvising on it. Foreign objects include but weren't limited to: dental mirror, finger cymbals, 3 mechanical pencils, a Sharpie, 4 or 5 new guitar strings (low E - low D), one 3 foot section of electrical wire, 2 rags, 5 pieces of foam torn from a pelican case, 1 drumstick, a bass bow, and a ring modulator. I feel like I'm leaving something out, but you get the idea. Here's a recording:
Improvisation for Prepared Rhodes Piano #1 [live] by Alex Nauman
third set: Pat Epely
Prepared Drumset. electric and acoustic manipulations. too much to explain, just watch the video.
The bottom line?.... don't miss the next one. I can't wait!

free jazz christmas
Who is interested in playing a free-jazz Christmas gig with me? There would be no pay, no sheet music, and (more likely than not) no audience after the first 2 tunes. Think about it and get back to me.
